Hello Vegan Travelers!!
As I excitedly prepare for my upcoming overseas trip, I have been gathering a few vegan items to take with me. As it is indeed a winter destination in the northern hemisphere, I do not need to concern myself with vegan sunscreen or bug repellent.
First and foremost, a tote bag and handbag is necessary for my travels. My tote is by Vera Bradley. It is a beautiful, flower print made of cotton cloth. This bag is my trusted companion by my side at every moment. It houses my travel snacks, sweater for wind or chill, and souvenirs.
My handbag is by Le Sports Sac. It is made of nylon and can withstand attacks by wind, snow, or rain. It consists of adjustable straps, perfect for placing across your chest as you grasp it tightly in heavily pickpocketed areas about town!
My luggage is an “American” canvas on wheels. I also pack my “Vegan Passport” Guide, “PointIt” Guide, and destination travel guide.
For trekking through the snow in the city or on tour, I am taking my Khombu boots with me. Approved by US ski teams, these boots provide warmth with their faux fur and are waterproof. They are moisture-wicking, breathable, and insulated.
I will also take my “Crazy Rumors” peppermint candy cane, vegan lip balm(Vegan Lip Balm). My holiday destination is in a cold and snowy land where it is not uncommon for lips to get chapped.
For dry hands exposed to the winter elements, I am bringing some vegan hand cream from Lush Cosmetics (Lush Cosmetics Hand Cream)
Since the northern hemisphere is experiencing the winter season, the hours of daylight are short and sweet. That is why I am also taking a mini-flashlight with me. While sunlight disappears early enough in the day, my thirst for sightseeing and souvenir shopping does not end at dusk. The lightweight flashlight I own fits nicely into a small compartment in my handbag. It is good as a safety measure also. It is plastic, so obviously it is a vegan item.
Upon arrival at my accommodations after a long flight, the first thing on my mind(besides sightseeing) is to wash my face, take a shower, and wash my hair. I pack vegan products for my skincare regimen. Travel size vegan shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and facial cleanser will be packed in my suitcase.
My flight will not include breakfast. The airlines offers light meals for a fee. However, the customer service representative on the phone could not verify if there were any vegan options. Alas, I will need to bring some vegan snacks and meals with me. I will bring Amy’s Kitchen Toaster Pops(www.amyskitchen.com/products) and dried fruit for breakfast during my flight. One of my day tours will be in a region which is not known for vegan dining. It is almost certain, therefore, that my tour group will make a stop for lunch at a cafe at which there will be nothing vegan offered for my meal option. For that reason, I will bring Dr. McDougall’s packaged vegan soup(www.rightfoods.com) and also a packaged Asian meal by Tasty Bite(www.tastybite.com) in my luggage.
Finally, I plan on bringing several vegan snacks with me on my vacation. These will come in handy during my flight, on lengthy bus tours, and while walking around town souvenir shopping or museum hopping. I will fill my handbag with Buccaneer,Jokerz, and Twilight bars (www.gomaxgofoods.com/), Liz Lovely’s cookies (www.lizlovely.com/), and Soy Crisps (http://www.glennys.com).
Adjust your vegan travel item list accordingly, based on season, weather conditions, and itinerary.
I hope everyone remembers to pack these items to ensure a happy, healthy, and safe “vegan holiday”!!
