***This vacation was taken before I started blogging and before I started photos of my meals. It still contains relevant info on sightseeing and dining.***
I had the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong for a few days. My first stop was the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. This huge venue contains concert halls and theaters for public performances. I then headed over to the Hong Kong Museum Of Art. The museum contains a vast collection of Asian art, calligraphy, and both modern and ancient Chinese paintings. It is considered the main museum of Hong Kong. It is located on the island of Kowloon, one of several Hong Kong islands.
Our next stop was a large jade factory where craftsmen intricately made many kinds of jade products including vases, jewelry, and other items.
Now it was time for dinner! As a vegan, I had to dine on my own without my tour group. I stumbled upon a vegetarian/vegan-friendly restaurant called Kung Tak Lam. Their vegetable and rice dishes were wonderful to my palate.
The next morning, my tour group set out on a small boat in Hong Kong harbor. We sailed past a Jumbo floating restaurant on the waterway. Pretty cool! The boat took us to another island where we overlook the entire city from a hilltop viewing station. I also had the opportunity to take a ride in one of those rickshaws pulled by two people. It was super hot so I slurped down coconut juice fresh from the raw, whole coconut.
We made a stop at Stanley Market back on Hong Kong Island. It is the premier shopping area for tourists. This is where I purchased my souvenirs. There are also many small gift shops where you can purchase goods from other Asian countries such as silver jewelry from Laos or Cambodia.
I noticed a tea shop nearby so I decided to visit. They take good care of patrons. As you sit at the small table, they serve you various herbal teas. This is definitely a great tourist activity in this city! The local mall is huge and you can find lots of western style clothing and anything else you need.
In the evening, my tour group took a harbor cruise complete with city tour, music, dancing, and dinner including vegan options. Hong Kong Island has many vegan restaurants including Kan Kee Vegetarian Food, Lock Cha Tea House , Pure Veggie House, Soland, and Tin Tin Vegan Take-Away. Kowloon Island has several vegan restaurants including Lan Lan Vegetarian Restaurant, Buddha Hut, Loving Heart Vegetarian Food, M Garden Vegetable, and Perfect Vegan Cafe.
Very cultural and scenic trip! It is also a vegan-friendly region.
