Hello Vegan Travelers!
Today I would like to share information about a valuable tool which I found online.
Some of you may own copy of The Vegan Passport which can translate phrases such as “I am vegan” or ” I do not eat butter, cheese, and eggs”, and so forth. Others may have purchased the Point It! guide so that you can point to a photo of a vegetable you would like for dinner. This makes it easy for a waiter to understand you if you do not speak their language.
However, there still may be times when you wish to relay a lengthier message to the waiter or chef. You may need to describe an entire meal or ask particular questions regarding broth, lard, or food preparation.
In these cases when you wish to translate a substantial amount of information, there is an amazing tool you can use!
It is called Yahoo! BabelFish: http://babelfish.yahoo.com/.
You just need to enter the text you would like translated then select the “To” and “From” languages. There are two options you may consider. One option is to consider what you may need to translate before you leave on your journey. You can utilize BabelFish at home and print out the translated information. The other option is to utilize the computer at your hotel or internet cafe at your destination. Either way, you are never at a loss to translate any statement or question you may have for the waitstaff at the restaurants in which you dine during your holidays.
