Hello Vegan Travelers!
It is encouraging to find that vegan meal options are becoming more and more commonplace just about anywhere we may wander. I had a consulting job which brought me to the small town of Nashua, New Hampshire today. For my lunch break, I decided to head into the downtown area to dine at an Indian restaurant. Much to my surprise, as I was driving towards the parking garage I glanced over at the pizzeria on the corner. There was a sign in the window which said “Vegan Pizza”! The pizzeria is “Pearl Street Pizza”, Pleasant Street, Nashua, New Hampshire.
Of course, I changed my plans and ended up going into the pizzeria. The vegan pizza selection was incredible! There were vegan chicken and vegan bacon options for the pizza toppings. I chose the vegan chicken. For no additional cost, I also chose extra toppings of olive, onion, spinach, and green pepper. The cheese was also the vegan variety.
As my eyes looked over to the snacks and cakes on the counter, I was in awe again! They actually offered vegan whoopie pie and vegan peanut butter cup. I opted for the whoopie pie.
As I anxiously awaited my meal and dessert, I thought to myself “Wow! This is incredible! Vegan pizza and desserts which I found just “out of the blue” as I happened to glance at a random pizzeria at an intersection”.
Finally my meal arrived. It was well worth the wait! The faux chicken was perfect in texture and taste! The vegan cheese was tasty, warm and had a good consistency. It was not overly gooey and not overly clumpy or melted. The crust and veggies were equally delicious! The was indeed one of the best pizzas I had ever eaten in my life!
Next..the vegan whoopie pie. Again, this was another great choice! The cake was moist and the creme filling had just the perfect amount of sweetness. It was scrumptious! I completely enjoyed my wonderful vegan pizza and whoopie pie!
Nashua, NH may not be a popular tourist location. However, my main point is that vegan meals can be found anywhere these days. Whenever you are driving through a random town anywhere in the world, look at the signs on various restaurant windows. They may say “Vegan meals served here”. It also is definitely worth walking into any random restaurant, cafe, or pizzeria during your travels to take a look at the menu. You may be pleasantly surprised that the word “Vegan” is not so foreign to them and there may be a few vegan selections for you!
Take a chance, think positive and take a look at the menus of random restaurants no matter where you travel! You never know. Vegan options may be offered there!
I love finding vegan items in unexpected places. Not as random as your find, but a month or so ago, I discovered my local bookstore carries the Alternative Baking Company cookies. According to the cashier, they can’t keep them in stock. People buy them like hotcakes. Made me smile… because people are buying them and because it makes it easier for me to buy them too! 🙂
I live in Nashua and didn’t even know about this restaurant. Thanks!!!
If you are still around….try Life Alive on Middle Street in Lowell. http://www.lifealife.com
I go to LifeAlive frequently!! I love that they stamp your index cards then after 12 meals you get the next one free.
If you look way back in my blog, My LifeAlive post was one of the very first blog posts I wrote.
That sounds wonderful! Bookstores are indeed “random places” where you would not expect to find vegan snacks. Fantastic!!
