Vegan-Friendly Eateries at Airports
World-traveling vegans used to have a tough go at finding suitable food at airports, but times have changed! Plant-based diets have been increasing in popularity over recent years, and many airports now offer plenty for us to choose from. Here, we’ll explore some popular destinations where veg-heads can breathe a sigh of relief when the dinner bell rings.
London Heathrow – LHR
Whether I’m looking for snacks or a sit-down meal, I know I can find it at Heathrow. Any vegan will be happy with a quick fill-me-up stop at Giraffe Restaurant’s Brekkie Bar morning, noon, or night. Come dinner, it’s time for Wagamama, where the veggie dishes are clearly marked, and yasai chilli men noodles are just waiting for me to stuff myself full of spicy tofu, courgettes, mushrooms, and mangetout!
Las Vegas – LAS
While Sin City might not be renowned for its herbivorous leanings, the airport does have a few options for Las Vegans. Fans of Mexican food are in luck — vegans should head over to Moe’s Southwest Grill to enjoy a tasty tofu burrito with black or pinto beans, both 100% veg! The ever-present glow of Starbucks also tempts us with vegan baked goods and specialty drinks.
Los Angeles – LAX
The sprawling airport of the City of Angels is ahead of the curve when it comes to veganism. One of L.A.s most popular vegan restaurants, Real Food Daily, is opening a location at LAX in just a few months! For those of us who can’t wait, stroll over to Euro Coffee for delicious sandwiches, snacks, and appetizers catered by One World Vegetarian Cuisine.
New York LaGuardia – LGA
New York is one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the US, and it even shows at the airport. The Cibo Express stand sells pre-made vegan meals like tofu pad Thai and sesame soba noodles. For snack time, I head over to Au Bon Pain for some lentil soup, then stop for a fresh fruit smoothie at Papaya King!
So if you have booked your flights to Las Vegas, London or New York, vegans have a massive array of choices when it comes to airport dining — a far cry from the soggy french fries and plain mash of yore. Armed with these restaurant listings, it’s time to grab our passports, luggage, plane tickets… and cutlery! Let’s eat!
