Vegan Travel – My final Day in Dublin, Ireland

After spending an incredible eight days in Ireland, my vacation had drawn to an end. Before my afternoon departure flight, there was one final attraction that was a must-see on my Irish itinerary! Trinity College in Dublin has gained popularity as one of the top tourist attractions in Dublin. The university’s old library is rumored to have played a role in a recent Star Trek movie, while the first level of the building houses the “Book of Kells”, an ancient Christian manuscript. The visit to Trinity’s Old Library completed my final morning in town.

Upon arrival at the library, a grand doorway greeted visitors to the Long Room where the sacred “Book of Kells” manuscripts are held. The illuminated and ornately graphical books are said to have been written around 800AD in a Columban monastery in Ireland. Two of the four manuscripts are on display at any given time. One of the open books displays the intricately decorative pages, while the other shows a typical page containing text. The four Gospel texts with elaborate prefaces, are contained within the manuscripts.

The library itself was erected in 1592, when Trinity College was founded. Its bookcase shelves contain a massive collection of ancient books and manuscripts. In 1661, a Mr. Henry Jones donated the Book Of Kells.

Statues of famous philosophers and writers, including Jonathan Swift and Socrates, adorn the aisles.

Sunday brunch gave me just enough time to grab a bite to eat at Thursday Cafe(Thursday Café) before heading to the airport. This vegetarian/vegan-friendly café offers inexpensive breakfast and lunch items in a casual setting. I opted for a cup of tea and an avocado and veggie sandwich in a toasted bread roll.

For a takeaway snack, I chose an toasted oats, raisins, and chocolatey treat. My meal and snack were really tasty and filling.

The Dublin Coop Market resides in the same building as the café. Many vegan foods, toiletries, and homecare products are found in the shop.

My return flight home on Aer Lingus included a vegan dinner. My entrée was a pasta with tomato sauce, a side salad, and mixed fruit bowl. As usual, Aer Lingus knows how to take care of its vegan clientele.

Any vegan traveler will appreciate the impressive vegan dining scene, as well. From the beloved tourist attractions to the amazing vegan cuisine, I am very pleased with my decision to visit this special destination.
